संख्या रेखा पर जोड़ (Addition on Number Line)

आपने कई प्राथमिक कक्षाओं में संख्या रेखा को ब्लैकबोर्ड पर बना देखा होगा , कई बच्चे अपने बैठने की जगह पर ही इसे बनाकर रखते हैं। आज शिक्षकों के पास गणित के प्रतिरूपण (modeling) के कई विकल्प हैं , फिर भी संख्या रेखा एक महत्वपूर्ण और उपयोगी गणितीय उपकरण है। जहाँ अन्य सामग्रियां जैसे कंकड़ , तीलियां , क्यूब आदि संख्याओं को दर्शाते हुए सीखने में मदद करते हैं , वहीं संख्या रेखा बच्चों के लिए संख्याओं के बीच के संबंधों को समझने का एक अलग नजरिया प्रस्तुत करती है। प्रारंभिक कक्षओं में संख्या रेखा के उपयोग से अवधारणाओं को समझना बच्चों के लिए चुनौतीपूर्ण होता है , फिर भी इसका उपयोग करना महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि यह आगे के कौशलों जैसे ऋणात्मक संख्याएं , दशमलव , भिन्न , ग्राफ आदि सीखने में मदद करती है जो उपर लिखी अन्य सामग्रियों की मदद से सीखी नहीं जा सकती हैं। संख्या रेखा बच्चों को मूर्त से अमूर्त सोच की ओर ले जाती है , यह बच्चों में बीजगणितीय सोच विकसित करने में भी महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाती है।

गणित में संख्या रेखा को एक ऐसी रेखा के रूप में परिभाषित किया जा सकता है जिस पर बराबर अंतराल में संख्याएं लिखी होती हैं। इसे प्राय: क्षैतिज (horizontal) रखा जाता है और दोनों दिशाओं में अनंत तक बढ़ाया जा सकता है।

बच्चे जब संख्या रेखा की आधारभूत अवधारणाओं (संख्याओं को पहचानना , किसी संख्या तक पहुंचना आदि) से परिचित हो जाएं तो , संख्या रेखा की मदद से जोड़ना इन अवधारणाओं की समझ को सुदृढ़ करने में मदद करता है ।

You must have seen a number line on the blackboard in early primary classrooms, many children also draw it near their sitting area. Although teachers today have many options for modeling mathematics, the number line is still an important and useful math tool. While cubes and other manipulatives support learning by representing numbers, the number line actually develops learning by giving students another look at number relationships. Early primary students may find using a number line more challenging for some concepts. However, it’s important to stick with it as number lines provide learning opportunities for later skills that can’t be replicated with cubes, such as negative numbers, decimals, and graphing. The visual support that the number line provides helps young learners grow from concrete to abstract to algebraic thinking.

In math, a number line can be defined as a straight line with numbers placed at equal intervals. A number line can be extended infinitely in any direction and is usually represented horizontally.

Another great opportunity for exploring a number line is when learning the first steps of addiction. When the students are familiar with basic concepts of the number line (identification of numbers, to reach a number on the number line, etc.), the addition using number line helps in reinforcing the concepts.
